Cerebello-thalamo-cerebral connections in pediatric brain tumor patients: Impact on working memory

Brain tumors are the leading cause of death and disability from childhood disease in developed countries. Pediatric posterior fossa tumors are often effectively controlled with a combination of surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, depending on tumor type. White matter injury following resection of tumor and radiation treatment is associated with cognitive declines, including working memory def...

Patient with pontine warning syndrome and bilateral posterior internuclear ophthalmoplegia: case report

BACKGROUND Capsular warning syndrome was first described in 1993, featured with repetitive episodes of motor and/or sensory dysfunction without cortical signs. Recently, it has been demonstrated that clinically typical capsular warning syndrome can be associated with pontine infarct and the term oepontine warning syndrome was coined. CASE PRESENTATION A 54-year-old woman with a history of hyp...

Bilateral Dentigerous Cysts in a Non-Syndromic Patient: Literature Review and Report of a Case

Introduction: Dentigerous cysts (DCs) are the most common developmental cysts of the jaws, mostly associated with impacted third molars and canines. Multiple or bilateral DCs are rare and typically occur in association with some syndromes including cleidocranial dysplasia and Gorlin-Goltz. The occurrence of multiple DCs is rare in the absence of these syndromes. Case Presentation: A 28-year-ol...

Artery of Percheron Occlusion in an Elderly Male: A Case Report

Acute bilateral paramedian thalamic and mesencephalic infarcts are uncommon. Occlusion of the artery of Percheron (AOP) is presumed to cause this specific stroke syndrome. However, occlusion of the AOP is rare and early diagnosis is challenging. Here we described a 70-year-old male patient who presented with acute disturbance of consciousness due to acute bilateral paramedian thalamo-mesencepha...

The acute brain response to levodopa heralds dyskinesias in Parkinson disease

OBJECTIVE In Parkinson disease (PD), long-term treatment with the dopamine precursor levodopa gradually induces involuntary "dyskinesia" movements. The neural mechanisms underlying the emergence of levodopa-induced dyskinesias in vivo are still poorly understood. Here, we applied functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to map the emergence of peak-of-dose dyskinesias in patients with PD. ...
